Biography

Dewi Ap-Thomas is based in Liverpool and was appointed to head the Firm's national Regulatory Department from May 2018.

Having trained at Weightmans in 2006 and qualified in 2008, Dewi has worked in the Regulatory Department and was promoted into the Partnership in 2017.

An experienced health & safety lawyer, Dewi has been ranked for a number of years in Chambers and his reputation with peers and clients continues to grow. He specialises in work in the criminal and coronial jurisdictions.

In recent years, his main focus is assisting public sector health organisations in post-death investigations, managing regulatory enforcement action and representing clients at inquests. He has represented clients at hundreds of inquests around the country, involving the most sensitive of baby death cases to article 2 hearings to workplace deaths (the inquests into which are assisted by a jury).

He provides advice and representation to a range of household-name clients such as: Shell UK Oil, E.On, Merseytravel, Cammell Laird, Cheshire East Council, Mouchel UK Plc, Kimberly Clark Ltd, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council, Emcor UK Ltd, Blackpool Coastal Housing Ltd, and Stonyhurst College.

As a former Executive Committee Member of the Health & Safety Lawyers Association for many years, he was involved in shaping the Guidelines on Sentencing for Corporate Manslaughter and continues to regularly present to a number of regional health & safety focus groups and public sector forums.

In addition, Dewi has experience in environmental, trading standards, food safety and other regulatory enforcement work.
