Paul is an Associate in the Employment team based in the Birmingham office, having specialised in employment law since before he qualified as a solicitor. Paul acts predominantly for large national and multinational employers across all sectors, particularly in the hospitality and leisure, health and aviation sectors, alongside a strong focus on assisting local authorities and police forces.
On the non-contentious side, Paul provides day to day HR and employee relations advice and drafting to managers at all levels and regularly provides advice at board level. He is regularly instructed to act as an independent external investigator for grievance and disciplinary investigations, particularly in the public sector, and he is experienced in sitting as an adviser to disciplinary panels. Paul regularly assists with and/or manages large scale projects such as collective consultations or TUPE transfers, including recently providing the primary legal support for a complex multi-billion pound sale of a business.
Paul manages employment tribunal litigation from start to finish across the entire range of employment claims. He is a very experienced advocate and regularly appears in Employment Tribunals across both England & Wales and Scotland as well as in County Courts in employment disputes. In addition, he deals with appeal matters and appears as an advocate in the Employment Appeal Tribunal. Paul recently undertook the advocacy in a complex claim listed for a 15 day final hearing.
He has a particular focus on providing data protection advice from an employment and HR perspective and assisted clients in understanding and preparing for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation. Paul regularly provides HR and employment law training both at Weightmans events and in house for clients, as well as being invited to do so for external events and conferences.
