Biography

Paul works in the Wills, Trusts and Estates team based in our Leeds office and deals with a variety of private client matters.

Paul is a private client specialist with extensive experience dealing with business owning clients, professionals, landlords, agricultural clients and landed estates. Paul advises on all tax planningTrustsWills as well as on the use of personal or Family Investment Companies and Partnerships, offering bespoke solutions where required. Paul provides advice in all areas of lifetime and post-death tax planning. He also brings to the team specialist experience of advising on the taxation of land and property, ranging from the sale of garden plots or whole farms to housebuilders, the use of promotion agreements, and the holding of rental property portfolios in trusts, partnerships and companies.

Paul provides specialist trust advice including preparing bespoke provisions for new documents and in the interpretation of existing trust provisions, where there may be ambiguities, inconsistencies or historic errors.

Paul also provides specialist expertise for complex Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax problems, such as on the use and applicability of the Residence Nil Rate Band or Business Asset Disposal Relief (formerly Entrepreneurs’ Relief) as well as niche tax areas such as Stamp Duty Land Tax in relation to multiple dwellings, companies or partnerships.

Paul also advises on the use of Lasting Powers of Attorney and Living Wills, and, where applicable, how disabled persons' trusts can be used as estate planning tools. Paul is a fully accredited member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).
