A robust process for identifying and then acting on an organisation’s environmental risks and opportunities lies at the heart of ESG.  Effective horizon scanning is a vital part of that process.

We invite insurance sector professionals to join us for an insightful horizon scanning session when we will explore emerging trends in UK and international environmental liability litigation and their impact across internal teams and functions.

Tailored specifically for the insurance community, this session will examine:

  • Climate liability litigation – including key takeaways from the “Peruvian farmer case”, the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion on state obligations in respect of climate change, the recently announced claim against Shell by survivors of Typhoon Odette, and the breach of duty claim by pension investors against the Canada Pension Plan.
  • PFAS litigation – examining why the current trend is towards water pollution rather than personal injury claims, and which organisations are most exposed to the evolving risk.
  • Pollution of UK rivers and estuaries such as the River Wye - exploring the drivers behind emerging group actions against water companies and the agricultural sector, and what this could signal for environmental liability claims in the future.
  • UK liability claims for international harm – a look at what gets these cases off the ground before the UK courts, what multinational companies appear to be most at risk, and whether we can expect more in the future.
