The firm will be a key partner in the growth strategy of the North West’s largest social housing provider
Weightmans has been reappointed as a supplier to a new four-year legal panel by the North West’s largest social housing provider, Torus.
As part of its continued expansion, the panel award will see Weightmans support Torus with a wider range of legal solutions and services including development, sales and property transactions. The Weightmans’ team will continue to deliver existing HR and employment support and solutions.
Torus procured the framework - worth £6.48 million - last year, marking its first major procurement exercise conducted under the Procurement Act 2023. The four-year framework, which runs from 2026 to 2030, will support Torus’ ongoing development, corporate and housing management activities by providing access to specialist external legal expertise, in addition to its in-house legal team.
Spanning five lots, it expands on a previous framework to support Torus’ increasing needs as it embarks on a substantial growth strategy that will see a significant uplift in the number of new homes it builds beyond the 1,000 a year it currently delivers.
Jen Hankinson, Partner at Weightmans, said:
“We are delighted to have been reappointed to the Torus panel to provide this crucial legal work. We look forward to working alongside Torus as it takes the next steps in furthering its vision of growing stronger communities, improving lives and supporting the development of economically vibrant communities and independent lives.
“As part of Weightmans’ strategic growth for our specialist social housing team, Torus is exactly the type of exciting client we want to continue to support as a strategic partner. We look forward to supporting its ambitions in making a difference to local communities across the North West.”
Steve Coffey, Torus CEO, said:
“Expanding our framework reflects the ambition of our growth strategy that will require significantly more legal support and expertise.
“The response, quality and quantity of tenders received to the legal framework was excellent with some existing law firms retained and new companies added.
“We are really pleased to welcome everyone on board as they play an intrinsic role as key partners helping us deliver crucial services to our tenants and communities.”
