Gemma is an Associate based in our Birmingham office. She joined Weightmans in 2026, having qualified as a Solicitor in 2021.
She specialises in employment law and advises clients on day-to-day HR and employment matters, alongside providing support with Employment Tribunal claims. Her experience covers providing legal and commercial advice on usual HR processes - including grievances, disciplinaries, sickness absence management, redundancies and structures - as well as advising and drafting employment contracts for all levels within the workplace and polices and procedures to help businesses remain up to date and legally compliant. She has also acted for clients on the more contentious side of Employment Tribunal, supporting on a number of claims, including those of unfair dismissal, discrimination, breach of contract.
Gemma's knowledge of employment law assists her in undertaking settlement negotiations on behalf of both employers and employees where, due to a potential breakdown of the workplace relationship, parties wish to try and agree specific terms to bring an end to employment. With respect to employers, she can assist with both undertaking the discussions and drafting any settlement agreement to reflect the agreed terms. She also advises on TUPE transfers and supports on corporate matters undertaking due diligence on high-value transactions.
Additionally, Gemma delivers HR and employment law training to a broad range of clients, both in person and virtually, to help businesses develop their own knowledge and understanding of such matters. She enjoys attending networking events, and contributing towards internally hosted events delivering employment law updates and guidance on best practice.
